![]() ![]() ![]() Most Vahnatai thought it was the Avernites who stole their Crystal Souls, but a few hoped that it wasn't them. Their most powerful mage- Rentar-Ihrno created huge magical barriers, cutting Avernum in half as punishment. In the time shortly before the events of Avernum 2/CS, three Crystal Souls were stolen by a bunch of humans and the Vahnatai decided that they are a threat. Both races lived in harmony until The Theft. They lived in Avernum long before the humans arrived, the place being their initial land.Īfter their most recent Resting, they found out that their former lands were now inhabited by a race of Humans, known as the Avernites, who they decided to leave alone and move into the lower caverns (though they still regard them as invaders). The existence of the Vahnatai dates from thousands of years ago. Most Vahnatai can speak English, albeit not very well. All of this is evidenced during the journey through Vahnatai lands of the Empire War Heroes in Avernum 2/CS. They also get partially destroyed, but some stay mostly intact (an example for this is the Ruined River Fort which is not in a very bad condition, despite its years of neglect). They are abandoned and are endangered from the monsters moving into them. During this time, they are vulnerable to outside threats and might die if said threats prove too much for the crystals they reside in. In most of them they raise crops, more commonly mushrooms, but sometimes other ones as well.Įach 100 years, those creatures enter a state of hybernation, because of the constantly decreasing food. Like humans, they have a leader in each of those settlements (usually a Mayor). Their towns are usually small, village-like settlements (like Avit), but there are some exceptions of larger towns that act just like the larger cities in Avernum (like Olgai, the residence of The Council of Olgai in Avernum 2/CS). Vahnatai are a peaceful race, mostly living in the Lower Caverns (with some exceptions), eating mushrooms, but there are some, who are hostile to humans.
